This ensures that the translated text not only conveys the correct meaning but also sounds natural to native speakers.

To maintain versatility, the training data includes 30% general instruction data, allowing TranslateGemma to function as a chatbot in addition to its primary translation role. Human evaluations by professional translators generally confirm the automated measurements, though some discrepancies exist, such as a decline in Japanese-to-English translations attributed to errors with proper names.
